The Parson Russell Terrier was recognized as the Jack Russell Terrier by the AKC on July 8, 1997. On April 1st, 2003 the name was officially changed to the Parson Russell Terrier. Our name change is in keeping wth the country of origin (UK). No matter what you call this little dog he will remain a purebred dog capable of performing his time honored tasks as well as being a fine companion. Into his repertoire are now added AKC Obedience, Agility, Earthdog, and Tracking.
The United Kennel Club has choosen to continue to using the name Jack Russell Terrier, but refer to the short legged dogs as Russell Terriers. |
